Built circa 1948. Open until 1955(?). Owned and operated by the Taylor family who owned the Taylor Theatre on Broad Street, the Hiway 17 Drive-In, and the Gatesville Theatre in Gatesville, NC. Though I don’t know the details it appears that the Eden Theatre was probably closed when Mrs. Taylor sold her theaters to Mr. W. J. P. Earnhardt, Sr.
A pamphlet published about Historic Edenton (Woman’s Club)in 1953 lists a sponsorship advertisement by the Taylors listing all of their theaters, including the Eden Theatre. The Eden Theatre was a no frills utilitarian theater.
After its short lived theater usage the building was used for storage and has been remodeled with a “Colonial” style look, in keeping with Edenton’s main architectural theme. It is now used as offices for an accounting business.

Launched at 102 West Eden street on May 18, 1948, its first film was “The Return of Rin Tin Tin” in Vitacolor. The architect was Frank Whitaker Benton. In 1962, the building was offered for $15,750 and, not long after, the Colonial Furniture launched an annex store in the former Eden Theatre. Offered for sale in 2024, it was listed for $320,000.
