Nearby Theaters
Located near the corner of W. McPherson Street and S. Franklin Street. The Princess Theatre was opened on February 29, 1916 with the play “Misleading Lady”. It was operated by Fox Midwest Amusement Corp. in the early-1940’s. It was closed in 1957.

Shame this building got such an awful, ugly remodel. Given its original appearance, I was surprised to see the August 1914 Sanborn still showing a fairly substantial Presbyterian church on the lot. The theater can’t have been constructed too many years later.
A document from the Missouri Department of Historic Preservation says that the Princess Theatre opened in 1915 and was designed by local Kirksville architect Irwin Dunbar.
This article from the Kirksville Daily Express gives the opening date of the Princess Theatre as February 29, 1916. The first event was a five-act play called “Misleading Lady.” The Princess closed in 1957.
