State Theatre

The State Theatre was a small neighborhood theatre located in the Parkridge community of Knoxville that opened on December 13, 1937 with Bing Crosby in “Pennies From Heaven”. It was across Washington Avenue from Standard Knitting Mills, which was a large textile factory. The theatre closed on December 10, 1954. The building is currently part of the offices for Habit for Humanity.

Last advertisements found for the State Theatre appear on Friday, December 10, 1954. Further searches on the name “State Theatre” or the address “1505 Washington Avenue” bring up no additional references to the theatre. The November 23, 1957 Knoxville News-Sentinel lists Doctor C.P. Redmon, dentist, moving his offices to the Schubert Building, 1505 Washington Avenue.
