Opened on March 26, 1952 with Robert Ryan in “Best of the Bad Men” & Jeff Chandler in “Smuggler’s Island”. The Twin Palms Drive-In was a two-screener. From 1979 until its closure on November 19, 1981 it screened adult movies. It is now the home of Insurance Auto Auction, and little more than the overall footprint of the drive-in is evident.

Amazing image. As I mention on the page for the Surf Drive-In Theater, my dad managed this theater and the Surf in 1955. As I recall, he would show a double-feature of Spanish language films on Wednesday nights. Though I was only 9 and unable to speak Spanish, I thoroughly enjoyed watching the movies, especially those starring Cantinflas.
When the Viking Twin was built, my dad was the new theater’s first manager.
Billboard, April 19, 1952: “The 900-car capacity Twin Palm Drive-In has been opened at Corpus Christi, Tex., with John C. Blocker as manager.”
Motion Picture Exhibitor, Jan. 9, 1963: “Sam Kellog has taken over operation of the Surf Drive-In and the Palm Drive-In, Corpus Christi, Tex.”
