Mainline Drive-In

Located in the north Adelaide suburb of Gepps Cross. The Mainline Drive-In is one of only two drive-in theatres still operating in South Australia. It was opened on 7th October 1956 with Gregory Peck & Audrey Hepburn in “Roman Holiday”.

Operated by the Wallis Cinemas chain, it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Mainline Drive-In was partially destroyed in a ram-raid & fire on 29th March 2017. It re-opened on 30th March 2017 using temporary facilities. A go-fund-me appeal has begun to get the drive-in re-built.

It was announced in November 2021 that the site had been sold and the Mainline Drive-In was close on 26th February 2022 with Carrie Coon in “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” & the animated “Encanto”. It was demolished in March 2022.

Mainline Drive-in opened on 7/10/1956 with “Roman Holiday”. The drive-in is hoping to add a second screen!

There was a fire at the drive-in on 28/3/2017 after a ram raid on the atm in the snack bar causing about $400,000 dollars(Australian). The atm and vechicle that did the ram raid were later found burnt out on train tracks. The drive-in owner hopes to reopen after the snack bar and power is restored. The swap meet is happening though.

The drive-in reopened on 30/3/2017, with portable toilets and two food vans until the snack bar and toilets are rebuilt.

The market(swap meet?) will continue to operate after the drive-in closes in February 2022.

Whoever brought the drive-in site, are they going to operate the drive-in theatre themselves?
