The Drill Hall was built in 1875. It was later converted into the Fairy Palace Theatre and began screening m ovies in 1923. It was operating as an independent cinema in the 1950’s.

By 2011, the building had been converted into an addition to an adjacent restaurant.

Movie screenings started in circa 1923. The first talkie screening was on 13/6/1929 or 1930 with “The jazz singer”.
