wonder how it got in my 1956 motion Picture Almanac,Drive-in must have been on the Drawing Board for years before being built,Strange.First Time I think I have come across this in the Almanac.
It is surprising that a town of a little over 500 could support a walk-in theatre and a drive-in. The drive-in was located on Highway 2.
This drive-in was built by the Aho Family who also owned and operated the Regis Theatre in Stanley. This drive-in was actually located on Highway 2 in Tioga, ND 58852. It closed in 1973 when a tornado took down the screen. Today all that remains is the concrete block building that contained the projection booth, the concessions stand and the rest rooms.
I’m not seeing any indication of a drive-in along HWY 2 or anywhere in the vicinity of Tioga, ND. And this is from a 1973 aerial. Even if a tornado took down the screen, there are normally other identifiable elements of the drive in.
Is there an address available?
I found it Kenmore, this was a hard one, The closest address I can get is 10762 US-2, Tioga. It was directly opposite this business on the other side of the Highway. It can be seen in the 1973 aerial, it does look like the remains of the concession building still do remain, surrounded by grass.
Good spot, kennerado. The 1973 aerial was taken after the screen was gone.
