Super 130 Drive-In

The Super 130 Drive-In was opened on October 26, 1960 with the Soviet animated movie “The Snow Queen”, Vincent Price in “Fall of the House of Usher” & Ward Ramsey in “Dinosaurus”. The real estate was owned and operated by the local Fox Theatres chain. The drive-in was later operated by Budco for at least part of its existence until in closed on October 14, 1987 with Anthony Barrile in “Hamburger Hill” & Eddie Murphy “Beverley Hills Cop II”.

I ran this dr-in for a time in the 70’s when Budco had it. My dist. mgr. was Ed Woolman. I remember a time when we had cars lined up from rt. 130 to the box office, & a guy handed the cashier a nickel, he thought he was in line for the Bristol bridge…

Mikeoaklandpark – I’m an Edgewater Park resident and I hate to inform you that it’s been empty and degrading for years, which is really sad (I even remember the last movie I saw there when I was 7 or 8). Within the next 2 years it will be demolished and they’re building homes on the site. They may have already started to tear down what’s left out there.

Chuck1231. It’s actually way off of Cooper and Rt. 130, there was an access road to get to it from Cooper Street but I don’t think you could get into it from the highway. You can’t see it from North Garden or South Garden (S.Garden would have been the actual street it backs up to but you couldn’t access it from there.

Hey Everyone! Thanks for your comments – I was able to write a blog post with some basic information and photos I took earlier this year.

http://driveinadventures.wordpress.com/2013/07/29/the-super-130-drive-in-edgewater-park-nj/ – the post and photos.

It will be sad to see it completely cleared out for housing!

The Super 130 Drive-In had a ridiculously weird start. The Super 130 opened its gates on October 26, 1960 with the Soviet animated film “The Snow Queen”, Vincent Price in “House Of Ushers” and “Dinosauris”.

Indeed, in my opinion, it was a strange start for a 1,000-car drive-in. However, the Super 130 would later pick up its first normal American first-run attractions beginning with Marilyn Monroe in “Let’s Make Love” and Anthony Quinn in “Portraits In Black” the following week on November 1 of that same year.

The Super 130 Drive-In closed after the 1987 season. The Super 130 closed on October 14 of that year with triple low-budget horror shows that lasted for a month, but its last normal first-run attractions are both “Hamburger Hill” and “Beverly Hills Cop II” on September 14 of that year.
