Located adjacent to the Embassy of the United States of America in the capitol city of this Central African country. The 600-seat Cine Normandy was opened in the 1950’s, and closed in 1981. It stood empty and unused for the following thirty years.
It was renovated and restored by the government and re-opened on 8th January 2011 with “A Crying Man is Not a Dancing Bear”, a Chadian made film. It has a screen 12 metres wide, and is equipped with Dolby Digital sound. The 35mm projectors have now been joined by digital projectors. Programming is first run Western (American & European) films and locally produced movies as well as Asian and Bollywoow films.
The government has plans to renovate three other cinemas in the country.
