Built in 1912, the Lyric was the first building erected for the showing of motion pictures in Marin County, California. This building was the second location for the Lyric, which started in the converted Opera House (which has since been converted into apartments).
The Lyric stayed open in this location until the opening of the Orpheus Theatre (now the Rafael) next door. After it closed the building became a restaurant.
The interior of the building still contains the projection booth on the second-floor and the columns that surrounded the screen. A second-floor balcony was added when it was converted into a restaurant.
Because of age and condition, the surviving murals have been covered with drywall but the original location and slope of the seats can be seen in the now exposed brick walls on the bottom floor.
