The Middletown Theater opened in 1944. I don’t know the exact location, but it was close to where the Oak Ridge Civic Center is today. According to an article in The Oak Ridger, this was the only theater in Oak Ridge to have a balcony, and, being the South in 1944, the only theater to admit African Americans ‘providing that they sat in the balcony’.

I don’t know how long it was opened, but the building was demolished around 1950.
