A new 988-seat Ufa-Palast was built on the site of an earlier Ufa-Palast (1929-1956) which has its own page on Cinema Treasures. Designed by architects Kluppelberg Lichtenhahn, it became the premier cinema in the city from its opening on 26th February 1958. It was expanded and re-opened as a 2,000-seat 7-screen multiplex on 20th September 1974.
In 1996, the cinema section of the building was demolished, retaining the office block part of the facade. A new 10-screen Ufa Palast was built on four floors, which opened on 27th February 1997. It was closed on 31st May 2006, and was demolished in November 2006. A new office and commercial building was built on the site.
