The Grand Vu Drive-In opened on June 11, 1953 with Rhonda Fleming in “The Golden Hawk”. Car capacity was listed at 240. It was operated by Commonwealth Amusement.
The drive-in closed in 1983. The screen is gone but the building that housed the projection booth/concession was still standing until around 2023.

In looking at the opening day ad and Mike Rivest theatre site it should be “Grand Vu”
The FDYB also spells it “Vu”.
The closing information is incorrect. I worked as the projectionist here during the summers of 1979 and 1980. I think the theatre closed after the summer of 1985. Loved working there.
The Grand Vu Drive-In opened its gates on June 11, 1953 with Rhonda Fleming in “The Golden Hawk” along with a cartoon before showing and fireworks after showing. It was first operated by W.O. and William Lenhart who also constructed the theater. It was closed in 1983.
The concession stand/projection booth has been consumed by the trees in the latest Google Street View from May 2023. In fact, a May 2013 view from 40th Street shows little, if anything left of the structure.
Interestingly enough, the ticket booth survived until at least May 2013 on Google Street View. And perhaps 2018 when viewing the aerials. But it is gone now.
