The small market town of Cheddar is most famous for its Cheddar Cheese, and the Cheddar Gorge, which was formed in the Ice Age. Located on Union Street near the Market Cross at Church Street. The Regal Cinema was opened on 18th September 1939 with Leslie Howard in “Pygmalion”. Seating was provided for 252 in the stalls and 168 in the balcony. It was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. Independently operated it was closed in 1958, and was later demolished. A residential retirement home named ‘The Homestead’ was built on the site.
