Located in the market town of Glastonbury, better known today for its annual music festival. The Town Hall is located where High Street meets Magdalene Street. It was built in 1814 and became the Cinema in 1912. Seating was provided for 200.
A New Town Hall was built adjoining the original one in 1930, and the Cinema business transfered there. The original Town Hall became offices and was designated a Grade II Listed building in 1974.
The ‘New’ Town Hall Cinema was taken over by the Cardiff based Cornell Cinemas(Sketty) Ltd, headed by Max Corne in 1943, and it was re-named Maxine Cinema. It operated into the mid-1950’s, and closed without installing CinemaScope. Today, the building serves as a function and meeting room.
