Now the Retro Suite nightclub

The Picture House was opened in 1920. All seating was on a single floor. In 1938, plans were proposed to enlarge the building by adding a balcony, but it was found that the foundations were not strong enough, so the Picture House was demolished.

A new cinema was built in an Art Deco style, and it opened around September 1939, with seating provided in stalls and circle levels. The proscenium was 25 feet wide.

The Ritz Cinema was closed in March 1980 and was converted into a bingo club, which remained open until 2010. By early-2018 it was in use as a special events venue.

As has happened to so many Bingo Clubs, Ritz Bingo closed on 2010, and the site is boarded up and disused.
