Named after the route which it bordered (Route 9W By-Pass at Saugerties Road). The 9W Drive-In was opened on May 30, 1949 with Joel McCrea in “South of St. Louis”. It was operated by the Walter Reade Theatres chain. It had a capacity for 700 cars. Facilities included a picnic area, an adult playground and a children’s playground, plus a dancefloor adjacent to the concession stand. It was closed in 1970.
