Reopening as Edge The Edge Cinema opening 19 Nov 2010, Fri The Macon Telegraph (Macon, Georgia) Newspapers.com
The Rivergate Cinema 10 opened on November 8th, 1991. Grand opening ad posted. 14 screens in 1993.
Four and a half years to respond to the last post… WOW!
I’m not sure what Macon’s problem with movie theaters might be. It seems that whatever is new and shiny is THE place. AmStar (The Grand) did it to the Regal and now everyone seems to be flocking to Kathleen/ Warner Robins where GTC has a GTX multiplex. With the industry in the shape it’s in, I don’t see a new place being built any time soon.
On the other hand, there have been quite a few movies MADE in Macon over the past few years.
Macon must be a weak Movie town….or folks are driving to the ATL.
I was recently in Macon and this theater has been remodeled so completely, you cannot tell it was a movie theater.
While there were some real “renovations” the theater was basically the same. It was more of a “clean up” than a true renovation. I only saw a single film there and the auditorium I was in was very dated. In its current condition it would be a great discount theater.
Like I posted earlier, I think this theater is in a decent location but AmStar currently has the market cornered.
Did they have trouble booking films because they were a minor player? Or was/is the neighborhood simply not ripe for moviegoing.
Naos Entertainment was unable to make a go of this theater even after extensive renovations and closed it after the last showings on September 10, 2011: http://www.macon.com/2011/09/12/1699898/edge-14-closes-its-doors-for-good.html.

This theater has reopened as The Edge 14 as of November 24, 2010.

It’s about time this theater gets a makeover. It is in a great location but since the opening of the AmStar/ Grand on Zebulon it has not been very well thought of.
The location is pretty good considering the new “mall” just up the highway and I’m would imagine with digital projection, etc. It might become the alternative that it always should have been.
CAN ANYONE GET PHOTOS INSIDE AND OUT BEFORE IT CHANGES, info too?
