Arcadia Cinema

Originally the Arcadia Roller Skating Rink, where Charlie Chaplin took part in a hockey match (Arcadia team v Fred Karno’s team) while he was in the area appearing with Fred Karno’s Company at the nearby Kings Theatre, Longsight. The Arcadia Electric Theatre opened in 1913. All seating was on a single floor and it had a 20 feet wide proscenium.

Later known as the Arcadia Cinema, by 1937 it was mainly a second-run cinema, but occasionally screened foreign films. It was closed in 1958.

The building became a cash & carry retail warehouse. In recent years it has become the Arcadia Fitness Centre. It was demolished around 2018.
