Opened January 3, 1992 by Vermont resident Merrill Jarvis who has been in the business so long he can’t remember. In the late-1940’s with his uncle they would travel all over Vermont showing movies in small towns in town halls. He would sell tickets and popcorn. His biggest opening of a theatre is the new Merrill’s 9 Cinemas. He has 24 screens in Vermont in the early-1990’s. He said of the theatre business,"The theatre business is as strong as the people in it. If we project a aura of enthusiasm, nothing, absolutely nothing coming down the pike can beat us." BOXOFFICE July 1992.
The Palace 9 Cinema was closed by Merrill Theaters on November 10, 2023.

Mike, if I could find out all this info from Manteno, Illinois, why didn’t you? It would save CT a lot of work.
To nix a few ‘?’ from your list – the theater was previously operated by Hoyts Cinema Corporation, and I believe North East Cinemas. Don’t think Regal was ever in there. It’s currently operated by HLB Entertainment.
It was also known as ‘Cinema 9’ for a while.
It should also be noted that the theater started showing Met Opera (Live in HD) seasons since 2008 – and continues to show unique programming through through the same agreement (Concerts, Documentaries with live discussions, etc). Additionally the theater has played host to the yearly Vermont International Film Festival since 2009.
Here in New England Hoyt’s cinemas only became a name change to Regal Cinemas. All Hoyt’s cinemas barring a few that were sold to Entertainment and Neighborhood cinemas switched to Regal which I believe is just another entity of Hoyt’s so this cinema probably operated under both names at one time. Very similar as when Sack became USA and then was taken over by Lowes and when AMC became Lowes and some AMCS became Regal.

Merrill sold his theatres to Hoyt’s in 1994 and bought them back later.
