This was opened by Mann Theatres on March 19th, 1975. Grand opening ad in the photo section.
I was a projectionist there a long time ago. Think this was, oh, maybe late 80s or early 90s. The lady that I worked with went on to be a manager. How would I describe her? Simple. She was the most beautiful brunette I have ever seen in MY LIFE! Yes, I would LOVE to see her again, a really great lady. <><> Hugs and Kisses Princess. :)
I just got work that they tore the building down. Can anyone in Pasadena confirm this?
A friend and I went there when the interior was being auctioned off; he bought about 25 seats (to redo his homemade home theater) and I got the projection room clock. Everything in the theatre was in very good shape.
Ethan Allen is next door. See the blue awnings in the street view? Thats it.
If I recall correctly, after it closed as a theater, it turned into a furniture store (Ethan Allen?) before it became a Trader Joes.
I went to this little triplex once, in 1975. I believe they were running a double feature of The Wind and the Lion and the remake of Farewell, My Lovely with Robert Mitchum. The auditorium was small, but a step above the AMC shoeboxes of the time.
I just saw part of the 1979 movie “The Jerk”. In the scene where Steve Martin’s character is working at a gas station, there is a brief shot where a sign for parking says Mann Theater. That led me to look up where the scene was filmed, which turned out to be just a few doors down from this location (the gas station is now a Carl’s Jr.). Just a bit of movie trivia.
More info or any photos?
It was gutted and converted to a Trader Joes market.
