Located in North Augusta this was one of the smallest drive-in theatres in the area. It was opened most likely in the building boom of the Bomb plant in Jackson, SC. During that period both sides of Aiken, SC. and Augusta, GA. saw a wave of drive-ins hit this area on both sides of the Savannah River.
The Booker T. Drive-In was opened prior to 1955 when it was operated by Marvin Johns. It closed by the late-1950’s after staying open only a handful of years. It was owned by John Tucker and the Booker T. Drive-In parked 300 cars, small for Augusta area drive-ins.
One hopes to pull advertisements from old papers, but they must have been careful with their advertising money. I never could find an ad. The only remaining projectionist left still alive could not recall the Booker T. Drive-In. Bill Barkley was able to help with all the Aiken drive-in’s and downtown theatres, but on the Booker T. Drive-In, nothing. I do hope in time I can add more, or hope CT members can. I know a few that were stationed here at Fort Gordon during those years might be able to help. The Booker T. Drive-In theatre it was small and almost forgotten.

thanks for the update.mostlikely in North Augusta,S.C. near the CLOVERLEAF or HILLTOP drive-ins.way before my time.
and that is a crying shame, the two major Augusta papers hardly even carried the LENOX THEATRE,which was a very nice theatre,pity folks couldn’t get along…

Randy, the address you listed is for the Hilltop Drive-In in North Augusta, SC.
Demolished?
There was another drive-in located at 1137 Atomic Rd, Beech Island, SC 29842. The 1971 historic aerials map shows the remains of it. Could this have been the Booker T?
