New Lyric Cinema

Located adjacent to the Kings Head Hotel, the Lyric Picture Playhouse opened on 17th October 1912. In 1929, it was re-named New Lyric Cinema and was presenting films and variety shows. There were two dressing rooms for artistes. It was equipped with a British Thomson-Houston(BTH) sound system.

It was re-named New Star Cinema in 1934, but this was short lived as it was closed in 1935. The building was later demolished and a HSBC Bank stands on the site in 2018.

wrong address it was at No 102 not 73 and the spread eagle hotel was never called the Kings Head. Two completely different places.
