December 17, 1992 grand opening ad in photo section.
Pine Square did have it’s share of colorful characters. I remeber one guy who wore the same trench coat all summer long sat at Johnny Rockets everyday and told the managers he was god. One day he offered me a microwave from Jesus. Being a downtown location it captured the feel of downtown Long Beach at the time. The box office had a very poor design and remember the lines going a few city blocks when busy. But sad the theater opened and closed in less than 20 years. When it opened it was the first 16 plex in this part of the country
Thanks Guys another gone,Even though quite new.Theatres it seems are good for twenty years or less then they are closed.

Status should be now closed. Its last day of business was yesterday.
That area of LB is getting too darned ‘grotty’ with an unsafe atmosphere for seniors and handicapped access which is out of view from security or cameras.
this theater will be closing soon and it is being turned into condos.
Nice looking theatre, but its hard to tell its a theatre unless you know what AMC is.Looks like most malls everywhere now.
They handed out 16" rulers as a novelty promtional item for the theatre’s grand opening.
This theatre used to be extremely busy, but also tended to attract it’s fair share of less than desirable patrons. At management training seminars, the Pine Square managers always seemed to have the worst customer incident stories.

Even when I did live in downtown Long Beach in the mid 1990s, at Ocean and Lime, I’d drive to AMC Marina Pacifica or UA Marketplace to see a film instead of going to the Pine Square. A bleh theatre if there ever was one.
I went to a movie here years ago, in the nineties. Not a bad experience.
