Opened with “The last bandit”. Site now occupied by various businesses.
So the newspaper story was wrong about the X rated movies. So Budd when did it close? Upload the pictures and video.
Oh boy, I’m gonna ruffle feathers here. The Sky Vue closed because the land was sold by Floyd Theatres to U. S. Homes with the intention of building a high rise condo. A moratorium was passed by South Pasadena forbidding this. The theatre was re-opened by Bill Eisenhardt and was in operation for many more months. It never played x-rated movies, in fact, we re-opened with a new, green print of Forbidden Planet. I was a relief projectionist there for years and was the full time projectionist from re-opening to the end. I have many pictures and even video.
It was closed and razed Dec 1977. It was showing X Rated movies at the end. Check out the pictures.
Floyd Theatres must have been a lot like Martin Theatres in Georgia, they pretty much had locations all over the Peach State.
Here is a 1969 view courtesy of Historic Aerials.
Floyd took control of this drive-in, along with the Mustang and 28th Street Drive-ins in 1971. The Sky-Vue closed in 1973, with mounting costs associated with bringing the theater up to code being cited as a reason for closure.
That’s funny-I had no idea there was a South Pasadena in Florida. I was a little startled as I had no recollection of any drive-in ever existing in the other South Pasadena.
