The Walmart was built in 1992 in the site of the theater and opened on May 15, 1993. The Walmart actually closed in 2014 and currently it was still abandoned as of 2022. It could be one of the last (or possibly the last) 1990s-era looking Walmarts in Florida.

My girlfriend Vickie B. and I use to go to The Garden all the time, back in the late 70’s. We were teenagers from the beach so it was our go to theatre. We also use to hit The Mustang and 28th st. too. Sad there’s not more pictures of The Garden out there on the internet.

The “Garden Drive In Theater” was popular in the 1950s.

The theater added 50-75 car spaces in a vacant part of the lot for the run of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid during its extended run. It was built by Ben Cohen of Holiday Amusements / Cincinnati Ohio.

It’s listed here. South Pasadena is a separate city from St. Pete, even though it’s only about a square mile or two.

It was listed in the St. Petersburg Times in 1963, if that helps.

It also must have opened in the late 50’s or 60’s cause it is not listed in my Motion Picture Almanac 1956. Five other Drive-ins are listed.

This was replaced by either a shopping center or mobile home park.
