Advancing the admission price from ten cents to fifteen cents in February, 1916 apparently didn’t work out for the Rex. This item from the July 29, 1916 issue of Moving Picture World tells of another policy change: “Rex Cuts Prices for First Time. Louisville-The Rex theater, formerly the Novelty, went from 10 cents to 5 cents on Sunday, July 16. The theater is one of the oldest of the medium-sized downtown houses, and has played at 10 cents since its opening in the fall of 1911. Prices may be raised again next fall, when business picks up with cooler weather.”
The Rex Theatre was built in 1911 as the Novelty Theatre, as reported in the July 29 issue of The Moving Picture World:
