Opened as the Belvedere Theatre in 1913 when it had 570 seats. Around 1931 it was renamed Ritz Theatre. It was renamed Capri Theatre from April 12, 1963. Seating was listed at 500. It was operated by Wilby-Kinsey Theatres, and from 1969 thru 1977 ABC Theatres, from 1977 thru 1982 it was operated by Cobb Theatres.
The theatre is located on Greensboro Avenue next to the Alston Building and across from the 1938-built Bama Theatre. From what I read the Capri Theatre had a 14 or 15 week run of "Sound of Music" but I am not sure of the accuracy.
The Capri Theatre closed in 1982 and the building is still standing but usage unknown.

Was the Capri another name given to the Ritz? Because according to a 1957 photo posted on the Ritz’s page…it was next to the Alston building. And the lobby building is the same.
Phantom Screen is correct. Capri is an aka for the Ritz. Boxoffice of July 29, 1963, makes reference to “…the new Capri Theatre, formerly the Ritz….”
I believe there’s a parking garage behind that facade now.
The Capri can’t have been at 610 Greensboro Avenue if it was next door to the Alston Building and across from the even-numbered Bama Theatre. It must have had an odd-numbered address. I can’t find an address for Alston Place, but the Lorch Diamond Center to the south of the theater’s location is at 611.
The Capri was probably at 607 S. Greensboro, which would mean it was originally the house called the Belveldere Theatre, found at that address on a master list of buildings designed by Birmingham architect D. O. Whilldin that was compiled by Thomas M. Shelby. Shelby lists the Belvedere as a 1923 project.
