The Old Hall, as it was known by locals to differentiate from the restored village hall, was built around 1890. During the years of the Second World War a travelling cinema company, known as the Clifton Country Cinema took a lease on the hall and began showing films with the profits going to the war effort. The van would show up on Wednesday afternoons and the projector (probably 16mm) and sound equipment would be off-loaded and a programme of films shown that evening. The following morning the van was reloaded and go off to its next venue.
The shows finished at the end of the war and the hall returned to its primary function as a village general purpose hall.
