The Park Plaza Theatre was opened by Purnell & Sons on May 23, 1968 with Barbara Parkins in “Valley of the Dolls”. It was bought by Famous Players later on. The theatre was twinned on July 28, 1978, three more screens were added on September 3, 1982 and two more on August 1, 1986. In the late-1990’s, the theatre’s interior was renovated to look like a Silvercity theatre with the carpeting and stadium seating for example.

In 2005, the theatre was bought by Cineplex. Three years later, Cineplex opened a Galaxy theatre nearby which cannibalized the Park Plaza by luring its patrons away from the old cinemas. The theatre was closed on January 10, 2010.
