Famous Players Park Plaza Theatre

The Park Plaza Theatre was opened by Purnell & Sons in 1968, it was bought by Famous Players later on. The theatre was twinned in 1979, three more screens were added in 1984 and one more in 1988. In the late-1990’s, the theatre’s interior was renovated to look like a Silvercity theatre with the carpeting and stadium seating for example.

In 2005, the theatre was bought by Cineplex. Three years later, Cineplex opened a Galaxy theatre nearby which cannibalized the Park Plaza by luring its patrons away from the old cinemas. The theatre was closed in January 2010.

This theatre’s final movies include Did you Hear About the Morgans?, Up in the Air, Old Dogs, The Blind Side, and 2012. At this point, the theatre was reduced to a second-run cinema.
