Ritz Theatre

The Ying Wah Theatre was a neighbourhood theatre in San Po Kong on the Kowloon side of Hong Kong. Ying Wah is the Cantonese pronunciation of its Chinese name, literally meaning " cream of the stuff" or "Britain and China".

The theatre opened to business on 8th February 1967 with a Cantonese comedy. The 1,454-seat auditorium was in the theatre section of a residential building. According to its opening full-page advertisement published by the Chinese language " Wah Kiu Yat Po" The theatre boasted to have perfect sight lines, comfortable seats, latest air conditioning system, spacious lobby and comfortable foyer and the latest model Simplex projectors.

The theatre’s owner was Mr.Lo Lam, who was also the owner of the Ying King Theatre in Kowloon.

The theatre showed first run Chinese films at full prices, and selected English films at 5.30pm shows[known in Hong Kong as the leisure hour shows] and selected Cantonese films at 11am
morning shows at reduced prices. In the early-1990’s or late-1980’s, the theatre was re-named as the Ritz Theatre under a new management, and first run Chinese films were shown.

During the remaining years before its closure on 8th August 2005, the stalls section of the theatre was closed, and the red curtain in front of the screen never drawn.

The theatre section of the residential building was sold in 31th December 2006.
