The Century Theatre was part of the Odeon Theatres chain when it opened in Fall of 1948. It was later taken over by independent operators and renamed Playhouse in the 1970’s. It was last operated as the Palm Cinema in the 1980’s until its closing in the 1990’s. It was converted into a nightclub named The Ozone. Since at least 2007 it has been in retail use.

For a while in the 1980s and 1990s a lot of movies were filmed in Oakville but I think it got over exposed.
I had never heard of “Alex: The Life of a Child” I will have to see if I can find a copy.
I was happy to find that clip on youtube, since as far as I can see, that’s the only image of the theatre we’ve got…
I took a picture of the Playhouse when I was managing it. Don’t know if I still have it but will look for it and will let you know if I find it. I will also look at the clip on youtube.

No it’s from a special edition of the Oakville Beaver in 1977, commemorating the town’s 150th birthday.

The Century Theatre opened in the Fall of 1948 by Odeon Theatres Canada. After independent ownership took over, it was renamed the Playhouse in the 1970s before renaming it the Palm Cinema afterward. This lasted until closing in the 1990s and became a nightclub known as “The Ozone”.
Perhaps an actual timeline for these name/management changes would be helpful.
Looking at AppleMaps - the location has been split in half and one side hosts a realtor, the other a children’s clothing store.
