Holiday Drive-In

The National Auto Theatre was opened August 8, 1947 with Marjorie Reynolds in “Up in Mabel’s Room” & The Marx Brothers in “A Night in Casablanca”. It was operated by Leo Yassenhoff, who also headed the architectural firm F & Y Building Service who designed the theatre and also operated Academy Operating Co. chain of theatres. Initially it had a capacity for 500 cars. By 1955 it was operated by M. Yassenoff, and had been renamed National Drive-In and the car capacity had increased to 750.

The Holiday Drive-In was opened in 1971, and was twinned on July 2, 1975. It was closed in 1985. Capacity was around 1,000-cars with the two screens.

The theatre was razed for Consumer Plaza West shopping mall. Capacity was about 1,000 cars for the two screens.

Here is a 1987 photo. The theater was still open at that time.

Lincoln Village Plaza is west of I-270. The Holiday was east of I-270 at approximately the location of the Consumer West shopping center.

The Feb. 11, 1974 issue of Boxoffice had an extensive article with photos about the extreme concession stand remodeling that Chakeres Theatres has performed on the Holiday beginning in late 1970.
