The State theatre opened on February 24th, 1925. Grand opening ad posted
The book “Flint 1890-1960” says this theater also contained a ballroom on its upper floors. It was demolished in 1952 and replaced with a Winkelman’s clothing store, which is what currently occupies the site that is being used as a restaurant.
The October 25, 1930, issue of Exhibitors Herald World lists the State Theatre in Flint as one of several houses designed by architect George J. Bachmann.
Actually, it is the rear facade facing Brush Alley that is still standing. Most of the building was torn down when it was converted to retail use. It is now a thriving restaurant called Blackstone’s Pub and Grill utilizing the old sign when it was Blackstone’s clothing store.
