Great Clips IMAX Theatre

The Imation IMAX Theater was opened on April 5, 1997 with “Into the Deep”. Located at the Minnesota Zoo, it offered two types of films for the public. They had the largest screen in the state coming in at over 6 stories tall. Being located at the zoo they used to only offer 45-50 minute long documentaries on wildlife, some of them being in 3D. This was still a primary function of the theater. In recent years the trend of Hollywood films going to the IMAX has brought in big business for them.

Their pricing is this:
Feature length films- $12-$15
Traditional (Documentary) films- Adults- $9.50, Senior(65+)/Children(3-12)- $7.00

You could get ticket discounts by purchasing a Zoo membership or a combination Zoo/IMAX daily pass. It was closed on January 27, 2019.

A superb theater to see the latest Hollywood movie in! Some movies will be presented in letterbox to the the ratio of the movie to the size of the screen, like ‘Star Trek’ for example, but it is still much larger than any other theater. Its a treat to see any film at this IMAX theater.

The one drawback is their concessions. The popcorn is horrible and they show no signs of changing it. Plus even their drink prices are steep.

So overall, worth the extra money if a big action film is opening up, especially something in 3D like ‘Avatar’. Just don’t plop down extra money for snacks.

An update to my comment from 2.5 years ago. Their popcorn is now decent. I’ve had better, but it is edible.
