Plaza Cinema Romford

The Plaza Super cinema was taken over by Eastern Cinemas Ltd during 1937 and underwent complete refurbishment of the interior decorations by Clark & Fenn (Clapham) Ltd., who used Marb-L-Cote plastic coating on auditorium walls and ceiling. New proscenium and splay walls were constructed to contain revamped Compton organ chambers with highly decorated fibrous plaster grille work finished in silver and gilt, with cinema clocks built into the bottom section. The stage was fitted with three sets of curtains, the outer velvet set, a silk set with green and black boarder as seen in above photograph and screen curtails in Mirrorflex fabric that enhanced the various colours from the top batten lighting. Curtains, carpet and seating installed by Lazarus &|Son London. A new barrel shaped ceiling designed in Art Deco linear style patterns connecting eight circular Art Deco opal light fittings manufactured by F. H. Pride Ltd Clapham, London. The new modernised cinema reopened as the Plaza Cinema on Thursday 22nd September 1938.
