The Assembly Rooms were built in the 1870’s. It was converted into the Princess Picture Palace in 1911, but this was a short lived venture and it was taken over by new operators and was re-named Assembly Rooms Cinema in 1913. It was closed in around 1920.
A branch of W.H. Smith has operated from the building since 1922 and continues in 2009.
