If the Lyric was on Main Street and the Time on Front Street then the Lyric was certainly a different theater and should have its own page.
The Time might be older than we thought, though. The “Theater Changes” column of the September 26, 1935, issue of The Film Daily listed a “Times” Theatre at Mankato as a house recently closed. It’s possible that “Times” was a typo for Time, and if so then the house might have first opened under that name in 1935, or even earlier.
For some reason Google Maps is fetching for us a location in the village of St. Clair, several miles from Mankato.
The lyric was open as early as 1926 with seating listed sat 600 and the Orpheum was already closed by 1926. The last year the Lyric was listed as open was in 1929. The Time didin’t open until 1936 with seating listed at 334. That is a seven year gap brom the closing of the Lyric and opening of the Time and the seating was about half the Lyric. The motion Picture Yearbook just lists an address for the Lyric as Main St.
Boxoffice of July 10, 1937, said that Publix was then operating the State, Grand, and Time theaters in Mankato, so we’ll have to push the opening date of the Time back at least two years.
A December 7, 1929, item in Movie Age said that Publix then had control of all four theaters in Mankato. The names given were the Grand, the State, the Lyric, and the Orpheum. I’m wonderng if the Time Theatre could have been either the Lyric or the Orpheum renamed?
