Regent Cinema

Originally built in 1855 as a Wesleyan Chapel. It was converted into the 490-seat Empress Picturedrome cinema, opening around August 1912. It was closed in 1918, but re-opened in 1921 and continued as a silent cinema until around 1931.

It re-opened in 1935 as the Regent Cinema. The frontage had been entirely re-clad in white tiles, and the seating capacity increased to 720.

In the 1960’s, the Regent Cinema was taken over by the Hutchinson Cinemas chain of Burnley. It was tripled in the 1970’s, with the screens having a seating capacity of 110 and 150 and 190.

The Regent Cinema was closed on 18th May 1983. It was later demolished and a building on the site in 2009 contains branches of Barclay’s Bank and Thomson Holidays.

The Regent Cinema can be seen behind the Blackpool tram on its way to the Fleetwood terminus in 1979:
