Plaza Cinema

Opened in 1912, the Geisha Electric Theatre seated 298. In 1914, it was enlarged to 670 seats by the architectural firm Andrews & Peascod. In 1937, it remodeled and was known as the New Geisha Cinema. It was soon known as the Geisha Cinema and in 1938, it was re-named Plaza Cinema.

It was always a second run cinema to the nearby Old Ford Picture Palace, and was closed on 4th July 1948 with Rex Harrison in "Ten Days in Paris" and Lloyd Nolan in "Sleepers West".

The building became a factory for many years, then in 1961, it was converted into a bingo club and bar due to the Bow Bingo Club in the former Old Ford Picture Palace (Ritz Cinema) closing when it burnt to the ground. Still operating as the Bow Bingo Club in 1974, it later became a snooker club which closed in 1989. The building was demolished in May 1990, and housing has been built on the site.

The sudden change to bingo in 1961 was because Bow Bingo had set up in the former Picture House/Ritz, but that caught fire and was destroyed. The bingo license was transferred by the owners, as they still owned the former Plaza, it had been leased out as a factory.
