A conversion of the post Office building. The State Theatre opened on October 13 1938 with Fred McMurray in “Texas Rangers” & Ann Southern in “She’s Got Everything”. It had 427 seats and was operated by the T & D Jr. Enterprises chain.
The theatre closed in early-1950 and has since been converted to a photo studio and frame shop.

The opening of the State Theatre in Tulare was reported in the October 21, 1938 issue of The Film Daily. Originally planned for Golden State Theatres, the project was taken over by the T&D Jr. circuit before completion. The State was designed by the firm of Jorgensen & Deichmann.
This opened on October 14th, 1938. Grand opening ad posted.
