The Bioscope Theatre opened in 1913, on the southwest corner of Wightman Road and Turnpike Lane in the Hornsey/Harringay district of north London. It was a rather plain ‘box like’ cinema. Renamed Grand Cinema by 1927 when it was operated by J.H. Cavin. It was the Grand Picture Palace by 1928. By 1934 it had been equipped with a British Thomson Houston(BTH) sound system and was operating as the Regent Cinema, but had closed by 1937.

The cinema was demolished to make way for road improvements after World War II.

Is there any reference for this venue being called Bioscope on opening? My ref was http://londonfilm.bbk.ac.uk/view/venue/?id=252 which says their source was the Bioscope Annual. Could there be any mix-up there?

It seems to have been owned by Adelphi pictures (see link on same site) which apparently also ran two more venues called Grand Picture.

Just keen to learn more so if you have any more refs woudl be keen to hear about them.
