Strand Theatre

The Strand Theatre opened in 1935 with seating listed at 600. The theatre was located in the town square. It was operated by Affiliated Theaters Inc. of Indianapolis, IN. until it closed as a movie theatre in 1961. It reopened briefly as a special events venue.

It has since been demolished.

Photos of the Strand Theatre ran in Boxoffice of January 6, 1940. The Moderne design was by the theater’s owner/operator, William Luckett of Scottsburg, Indiana.

The Strand Theatre has been demolished. There are what appears to be five two-story buildings along the section of the square where the theater once stood, but if you look at the back of the structure from SW 1st Street you can see that it is one long, modern building.

This actually closed as a full-time movie house in 1961, but briefly reopened as a special events house that also shows movies in rare occasions for a short time.
