Such a shame. this IMAX screen was fantastic. I remember seeing The Hobbit 48ps and Interstellar 15/70mm here. the screen was huge but the seats were arranged in a way that you never felt like you were too close, a true Original IMAX theater. This space is now a 5 wits interactive escape room.
In 2014 they were showing Christopher Nolan‘s latest movie. It was fantastic to see the IMAX 70 mm film In the projection room. A terrible shame that they closed this IMAX theater. The largest IMAX screen outside of new York city. What a terrible waste they should’ve kept it for sure
They closed this theater on May 22, 2015. The last IMAX movie they played was Avengers: Age of Ultron. Two weeks later they turn Screen 10 into a IMAX theater inside the AMC Palisades 21 building and the first film they played in that auditorium is San Andreas.
Yeah they ruined this theater. The new IMAX is a fake one and it’s supposedly a rather small one even for the fake ones. I never go here anymore.
I remember this theater. It was huge. But now the IMAX is inside the AMC at the mall.
The AMC Rockaway digital imax is a decent imax.
Liberty Science Center, Regal New Roc City and Lincoln Square are true legacy IMAX theaters – the latter two have gone digital. LSC is a 15/70MM dome IMAX – they occasionally showed Hollywood films. This site is converting into some kind of role playing indoor amusement park that sounds compelling but kind of temporary – we’ll see if succeeds.
Jeez. Is there a single other true giant IMAX anywhere in the NJ region without having to go into Manhattan left? I think was it right? WHo the heck closes it right befor SW? at least milk SW first.
Jeez, can’t believe it! The only true option in our entire region without the utter mess and expense of going into NYC! And to close it the year Star Wars comes out??? That would’ve been sold out day in and day out! Who closes that screen right before that! I was counting on this theater so badly for SW. Jeez.
Closed and moved next door to the AMC in what was Theater #10. I saw Everest (2015) in IMAX on the new screen – its just not as good for many reasons (even if the seats are more plush). The mall is covering the former IMAX into some kind of role playing playground thing.
See my post on the palisades center theater page….this should be merged with the other AMC theater page.
Does anyone know the official status of this? I heard it was closed to upgrade its projectors to digital and upgrade speakers? Now I see the website is down. Is AMC running it?
No more films at the IMAX 70MM or other. ALL DIGITAL
Operated (with a separate box office and concessions from the 21-screen Lowes) by AMC since RoboCop (February 12, 2014). Not sure if they still have 15/70MM in operation.
For film 3d, especially older movies, you might see some film static. That was the case with L5, which i’ve seen a few times at the lincoln square theater. Any word on when digital imax will be installed at this theater?
One site claims the screen is 74' wide.
They support film 3D projection.
One odd thing is that Avatar 3D did not take up the full width (I know it can’t take up the full height since the aspect ratio is 1.78:1 and not 1.4:1 as is IMAX). Maybe this location doesn’t have a bright enough bulb to drive 3D at over 64-66' or so width? Maybe no location does? Or did they just side crop it down a little for no reason? Anyway, with film 3D you don’t have to worry about seeing gridlines if you sit fairly close. Pretty awesome experience all the same, but I was wondering why they didn’t project the full 74' width.
One of the first movies to play here was “Everest”, which was one of the most popular IMAX movies of all time.
