Cinema 1-2-3

The Rosemary Theatre opened on January 14, 1950 with Robert Mitchum in “Holiday Affair”. Itwas the last downtown theatre to remain! Aiken had another downtown theatre, the Patricia Theatre which lasted into the 1950’s.

On February 16, 1962 it was renamed The Cinema. The Fox Drive-In and The Cinema always ran small advertisements in the Augusta papers.

On July 4th, 1965 The Cinema was playing "Yellow Rolls Royce" with Ingrid Bergman and Rex Harrison. Shows at 3:00, 5:02, 7:14, 9:26, and "In Harm’s Way" was coming soon.

On June 10, 1983 The Cinema expanded to a triple known as Cinema 1-2-3 and continued to run movies even with a Regal cinema at the mall. However, Cinema 1-2-3 was closed in April 2001, sold and torn down for its real estate value.

You can’t even tell a theatre was ever there.

Also Maximos, this is great place for theatre stories.I woked several theatres in Augusta in Management and filled those theatres with stories,I hope you can do the same. Most of the CT members enjoy the tales of the Theatre.Quite a few, never worked a movie house.

According to an article in the Aiken Standard of April 3, 2001, the Cinema was to close on April 5, 2001. The Cinema was formerly the Rosemary Theater. It was leased from Mr. Ram, who opened it in 1950. Stewart & Everett leased both the Patricia and Rosemary Theaters in 1952. It closed because Carmick was in Chapter 11.
