Previous Names: Electric Theatre
The Electric Theatre opened in 1912, operated by Mr V.W. Rowe, who also operated the Empire Pictorium. It was famous for its tiled frontage that ran longitudinally along Cardiff Street. Many local people used used to say that it looked more like a swimming baths than a cinema.
Later re-named Aberdare Cinema, it was equipped for talkies in the early-1930’s when a Picturetone system was installed. It was closed in around 1959.
