Opened on February 6, 1942 with “The Shadow Of The Thin Man” (unknown if short subjects were added). First operated by Mr. Troy Thompson and his son Mr. Robert S. Stevens. Still opened in the 1970s.
I spent many a Saturday here as a child in the 1950’s and 60’s. It cost a quarter to get in and usually it was a double feature. Most of the time it was a “scary” movie. The Troy burned to the ground…can’t remember what year. Great memories of meeting my friends at the Troy!
Between 1953 and 1969 I went to this theatre many many times. In elementary and Jr High days, I was there almost every Saturday for the double feature. The favorite concession was a drink called “The Shipwreck” which was a mixture of all the fountain sodas. I remember Mr. Kirkley the owner was a very kind man. It seemed like he really hated to kick unruly kids out on Saturdays for popping popcorn bags, or shooting silver gum wrappers at the screen. They looked like tracer bullets. It was really cool.
