The Strand Theater was located in the Masonic Temple building and opened in 1902. In 1923, a Wurlitzer organ was installed. The Strand Theater was closed in 1952, and demolished in 1956.

The Dodd of the architecutral firm Dodd & Cobb was William J. Dodd, who later moved to California, where he designed the Kinema Theatre in Los Angeles.

The January 6, 1917 issue of The New York Dramatic Mirror said that the B. F. Keith circuit had acquired the lease on the Masonic Theatre in Louisville and would operate it as a high-class movie house called the Strand. An orchestra of thirty pieces had been hired. As well as their big vaudeville house, the circuit was also already operating the Mary Anderson Theatre as a movie house.
