The Building In All Its Glory

In 1988 Cineplex Odeon razed the original El Dorado Theatre, which had been built by ABC Theatres in 1967, and replaced it at a different location on E. Broadway Boulevard, with this six-screen multiplex of the same name opening onJune 17, 1988.

Odeon’s multiplex operated for 15 years before succumbing to competition from a newer megaplex nearby, and in 2003 the building was converted to retail space.

It actually had a different address than the original theatre; it was 5925 East Broadway Boulevard.

June 17th, 1988 grand opening ad in the photo section. Typical Cineplex Odeon ad designed in Toronto.
