The Rex Theater was in operation prior to 1941. A local newspaper article mentioned in 1971 that the Rex Theater was going to be moved to Pioneer Town outside of Scobey to make way for a new bank building. However, a photo taken in the late-1980’s showed the Rex Theater still at its old location in the city.

Here are some 1987 photos. There is a possibility that these may have actually been taken inside Pioneer Town.

Yes, the ‘87 photos were in Pioneer Town. Big clue is the dirt road in front, and take a look at this recent photo of Pioneer Town.

You can tell by the building to the right of the Rex. They are the same. One building was added right next door, however.
The Rex building got moved twice. The August 1, 1953, issue of Boxoffice reported that the Rex had been closed after the owners had opened the Riv-R-Vue Drive-In south of town. The Rex had by then operated as a theater for nearly forty years.
The building had been moved to the townsite somewhat earlier and at first had been used to store flax. It became a theater soon after, originally presenting traveling shows. The Boxoffice item does not give the year movies were first presented at the Rex, but it must have been in the 1910s.
The Rex is in Pioneer Town and should be listed as open as a live venue since it serves as the home to a variety show called the “Dirty Shame Show”. The address is 7 West County Road.
